Arizona Historical Society Sanguinetti House Museum & Garden Surrounded by graceful gardens and aviaries, this regional museum features exhibits, photographs and other items related to Arizona's territorial period. The Yuma Territorial Prison - State Park It was a prison in the Arizona Territory in the United States. It accepted its first inmate on July 1, 1876. For the next 33 years 3,069 prisoners, including 29 women, served sentences there for crimes ranging from murder to polygamy. The prison was under continuous construction with labor provided by the prisoners. In 1909, the last prisoner left the Territorial Prison Yuma Crossing State Historic Park Once a major military supply point, this site contains the quartermaster depot and officers' quarters as well as restored historic buildings commemorating five centuries of transportation across the Colorado River. Yuma Conservation Garden The Yuma Conservation Garden offers the casual visitor a tantalizing glimpse onto a land of little rain, a place of spectacular and unusual beauty — the Sonoran Desert. Part botanical garden, outdoor laboratory, animal refuge and farm equipment museum, the garden is a network of paths through time. Located on 32nd Street next to the Yuma County Fairgrounds. Travel alongside the Colorado River on this 1922 diesel-powered train while listening to local folklore tales and the history of the region. Call the Yuma County Live Steamers for schedule and rates. From 4th Avenue, take 8th Street west, approximately 10 miles 8th Street will continue as an unpaved road, and the train will be on the right. (928) 783-3456. Imperial National Wildlife Refuge Stretching 30 miles along the Colorado River, and encompassing desert and wetlands, this site has plentiful plant and animal life and is a great place for bird watching, hiking, boating and fishing. Cibola National Wildlife Refuge Cibola NWR is located in the floodplain of the lower Colorado River and surrounded by a fringe of desert ridges and washes. Fort Yuma (1849-1885) & Quechan Indian Museum Fort Yuma - Quechan Museum was built in 1851 as the officer's mess at Fort Yuma, a U.S. Army military post. The museum, established by the Tribe depicts history of the Quechans, military and the early Spanish explorers. Located off of S-24 in California. For information, please call (619) 572-0661. Betty's Kitchen Trail, Yuma, Arizona A 10 acre wildlife interpretive area on Mittry Lake. Take Highway 95 to Ave. 7E, turn left and go 9 mi. past Laguna Dam, and turn left at the sign.
